A Message for the 21st Century
An Option to Live:
Life in the 21st Century moves at a frenetic pace. Figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics show that Americans today work longer hours and take fewer long vacations than in the past - they're third only to South Korean and Australian workers when it comes to time spent on the job. Add to this the exposure to countless chemicals in today's products, too much fast food, lack of exercise and the stress of modern living, and it's not surprising that in 2000, national health expenditure was $1,299 billion! (US Census Bureau statistics.)

Light Therapy Widely Used for Seasonal Affective Disorder Provides Dramatic Benefits for Non-Seasonally Depressed: Clinical Study
In a controlled study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, light therapy used for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) dramatically hastened and improved the reponse of major non-seasonally depressed patients to Celexa, a popular SSRI antidepressant. The study's authors concluded that the finding is "likely to change common clinical practice" for treating depression. Patients who used an advanced, low-intensity, form of light therapy responded almost immediately to the medication, instead of after the usual two-to-four week delay common with antidepressant treatment. The researchers' use of Sunnex Biotechnologies' low-intensity light therapy is consistent with studies indicating that side effects from bright light therapy, such as discomfort and potential eye damage, may be avoided through the use of low-intensity light from a select portion of the visible spectrum.

The Gay Greek Myths Re-Awaken as Theater and Book After Two Thousand Year Sleep
Four New York artists collaborate over four years on a theatrical CD+book project to bring back to life the lost Greek myths of male love. Titled Lovers’ Legends Unbound, it features familiar protagonists who reveal here a side censored since Roman times. Stories of Narcissus, who spurns the love of another man before falling in love with himself; Hercules and Hylas, in love and together “morning, noon and night;” Zeus and Ganymede and jealous Hera, and many others, are set to music by Steve Gorn and read by Timothy Carter. The tales show that self-indulgence, betrayal, and violence are to be despised, and love is the highest good. The myths were restored and retold by author Andrew Calimach, and published unabridged in Lovers’ Legends: The Gay Greek Myths, a ForeWord Book-of-the-Year Award winner and a well-reviewed work, adapted here for the stage by Israeli director Agnes Lev. - 2003-12-10
