LIFE IMITATES ART IN POLITICS Old screenplay about lobby, quorum, and politics debuts as new theater production.

Three years ago, screenwriter and journalist Lawrence Wright debuted a screenplay called Sonnys Last Shot during Texas Writers Month. Hollywood executives passed on the project – asserting that the story was not real life" enough for a feature film. Three years later, Texas Democrats fled the capitol to break quorum.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 15 2003-- Three years ago, Austin writer Lawrence Wright debuted a screenplay called Sonnys Last Shot during Texas Writers Month. As part of the fictional plot, several Texas Democrats flee to the Alamo to avoid legislative quorum.

Sound familiar? Hollywood executives passed on the project – asserting that the story was not real life" enough for a feature film. Three ironic years later, Wright transformed Sonnys Last Shot into a comedic theatre production that runs through November 1, 2003 at the Arts on Real Theatre and Soundstage. All profits benefit the Sunshine Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer.

The play features several local stars, including veteran Texas actor G.W. Bailey (Sgt. Rizzo" - M.A.S.H. and Captain Harris" - Police Academy series); Will Wallace (Private Hoke" – The Thin Red Line and Bill Carpenter" – I Am Sam); and Elise Ballard (Elisa" – Blind Heat and Glaze Shambro" – New Suit ).

Marco Perella, a film and stage actor, writer and longtime Austin acting teacher, directs the production and has coordinated surprise cameo performances by VIPs in Texas politics, arts and music.
