Tujunga, CA (PRWEB)October 23, 2003-- Online auction company, Bidway.com Inc., announced today that it has issued a cease and desist letter to the CEOs of AOL Time Warner Inc. (NASDAQ: AOL) and Google.com Corporation.
Earlier this month, AOL Time Warner and Google announced they would expand their Internet search capabilities to include localized searching based on zip codes. Attorneys for Bidway Inc. claim that the plan infringes upon a provisional patent owned by the company that relates to business methods of utilizing zip codes in the search for local businesses online.
Tujunga, California based Bidway.com Inc. currently operates over 8,000 zip code based search domains and filed for the patent in February of this year. Individual domains can be found on the site's hub at ShopYourZipCode.com.
In the letter, dated October 17th, Attorney Ali R. Moghaddami stated that prior to the announcement by AOL and Google, Bidway Inc. had been in contact with the Google Corporation. He states that Bidway had inquired about incorporating the Google search button into their 8,000 local search sites, a proposal that was quickly dismissed by Google.
In an attempt to clarify the parties' respective rights and avoid litigation, Moghaddami requested that the recipients respond no later than October 31st.
