New Network Connection Monitor Adds Critical Security Features to iSMARTset

Prism Microsystems, Inc. a security software systems vendor announced today general availability of v4.0 of EventTracker an iSMARTset component with a major new feature called Network Connection Monitor (NCM).

Columbia, MD (PRWEB) October 27, 2003 -- EventTracker, an iSMARTset component, is a reliable, proactive and practical enterprise class solution to centrally monitor, analyze and manage events being emitted by Windows NT/2K/XP/2003, UNIX systems and SNMP enabled devices. It is a component of iSMARTset, a family of system and network administration technologies that are essential to security management in the modern back-office.

The new NCM feature can report any TCP or UDP activities on any port in real-time. The highly configurable feature provides critical security beyond the firewall, an important element of intrusion detection. System administrators can be alerted when critical resources are accessed over the network by non-trusted sources. A profile of external access by internal sources can be quickly created. Capacity planning information on network/address/port usage can be developed. Connection monitoring is a critical gap in securing the modern enterprise.

NCM is a critically important addition to enterprise network security. Many recent attacks including Blaster and Slammer have conclusively shown that basic firewalls do not provide sufficient safety.

NCM is a natural extension and a critical addition to the security features of the iSMARTset framework. Input from security minded enterprise customers including AT&T ESC and LLNL played an important role in the development of this feature" said A. Ananth, President, Prism Microsystems. Internal attacks are far fewer in number as compared to external ones. However, the damage caused by an internal attack is orders of magnitude higher" he noted.

The NCM feature release was announced at the 30th Annual Conference of the Computer Security Institute (CSI) in Washington DC Nov 2-3 2003. Prism Microsystems, Inc exhibited this feature at its booth in the Innovations in Security Pavilion.
