All children have a first language, which is any language learned before age 3. A language learned after age 3 is considered to be a second language. When a child younger that 3 years of age learns two (sometimes more) languages at the same time, this is referred to as simultaneous bilingualism. A child who learns a second language after age 3 goes through sequential bilingualism, which involves a different process of learning from simultaneous bilingualism.

Owner Rick Hinds, Lizann Hinds and mother-in-law Ynes Cruz developed the bilingual videos and workbooks after realizing that they could not find any educational and entertainment products to fulfill the need. Many parents, like the Hindss, desire to raise their children in a bilingual family in order to prepare them for an increasingly bilingual society. So with his mother-in-law, an elementary school teacher and ESL chairperson at her Florida school, Mr. Hinds created the videos.
