Winners Announced for 2003 War Poetry Contest

Robert Randolph of Texas is the winner of the second annual War Poetry Contest sponsored by Winning Writers. His poem, "Floating Girl," was judged the best from among the 734 entries received. Mr. Randolph received a prize of $1,000. A total of $2,000 in prizes were awarded. The prizewinning and finalist poems are published at http://www.winningwriters.com.

Northampton, MA (PRWEB) November 15, 2003 -- Winning Writers is pleased to announce the results from its second annual War Poetry Contest. Robert Randolph of Texas won first prize and $1,000 for his poem, "Floating Girl."

734 entries were received from around the world. Jendi Reiter, judge of the contest, praised Mr. Randolph's entry for its "delicately beautiful and strange imagery, its musical cadence that never falters."

The second prize winner, Joel Long of Utah, received $500 for his poem, "Broken Windows at Reims." The third prize winner, Patricia Monaghan of Illinois, received $250 for her poem, "Soldier's Heart." Five honorable mention poets received $50 each.

The War Poetry Contest seeks original, unpublished poems on the theme of war. Contestants are asked to submit 1-3 poems, up to 500 lines in total. The contest will be offered again in 2004, with the total prize purse increasing to $2,250. The submission period is March 1 - May 31. The entry fee will remain $10.
