Professional Standards Institute Announces New Certification Program for Information Technology Project Managers

TALLAHASSEE, FL: Professional Standards Institute today announced the November 19th release of a new certification program for Information Technology Project Managers.

(PRWEB) November 18 2003--Individuals earning the PSI Certified Information Technology Project Manager certification are professionals who have attained an advanced level of expertise and knowledge in Project Management, specializing in the Information Technology industry,” said Gary Harris, Director.

The certification test is constructed to measure "Real World" expertise and knowledge. It is a vendor-neutral test, so specific book-learning on a particular project management philosophy may not help applicants to pass the test. If an applicant has successfully managed large IT projects, on-time and on-budget, then they should have no problem passing this test. Thus, it is highly recommended that applicants have at least five years of hands-on experience in their field prior to taking it.

The PSI Certified Information Technology Project Manager (CITPM) certification test includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: General IT Project Issues, General IT Concepts, IT Project Planning, Estimation, and Management, Project Sponsorship Issues, Project Task Scheduling, Project Budgeting, Cost Control, Scope-Creep and Contingencies, Resource Team and Outsourcing Issues, Business Process and Requirements Analysis, Risk Analysis, Management, and Control, Project Status Reporting, Team Status Management, and Professional Standards and Ethics.

What has always bothered me about certification tests is that with most of them you could study a book, take the test, become certified, and have never worked a minute in that field at all,” said Gary Harris. We construct our tests to measure knowledge gained on the job - not in books.”

Obtaining professional certification is extremely beneficial to individuals in that it proves to potential and current employers an advanced level of knowledge in a field. Professional Standards Institutes certifications go a step further by ensuring that this knowledge is gained on-the-job.

Professional Standards Institute is dedicated to the establishment, development, and preservation of high professional standards and ethics. For more information, please visit www.ProfessionalStandardsInstitute.com.
