Hot-melt silicone technology increase productivity, quality

Dow Corning Corporation announces a new solution for customers looking to improve productivity and quality. A unique, new reactive silicone hot-melt sealant, Dow Corning InstantGlaze Window Assembly Sealant allows manufacturers to fabricate high-quality windows and doors at speeds two to four times faster than tape glazing operations.

MIDLAND, MICHIGAN USA (PRWEB) December 18 2003-–Dow Corning Corporation, a global leader in silcon-based technology and innovation, announces a new solution for customers looking to improve productivity and quality. Dow Corning® InstantGlaze Window Assembly Sealant, used with specially pre-engineered pump and X-Y glazing table combinations, enables manufacturers to produce higher-quality windows and doors faster and more economically. The launch of this solution is a perfect illustration of how Dow Corning listens to customers and combines technology solutions with business support to help them succeed," says Steve Block, program manager for Dow Corning Fenestration Products.

A unique, new reactive silicone hot-melt sealant, Dow Corning InstantGlaze Window Assembly Sealant allows manufacturers to fabricate high-quality windows and doors at speeds two to four times faster than tape glazing operations. The sealant optimizes the capabilities of automated backbedding technology, reducing labor requirements and increasing output so dramatically that the payback period for equipment can be as short as nine months under certain conditions.

Dow Corning InstantGlaze is a patented formulation that delivers all the longevity and flexibility of a traditional silicone sealant without squeeze-out problems and cure hold times that can slow production and increase labor costs. It has a pot life of 24 hours and an open time up to 15 minutes, but develops instant green strength so there is no delay in fabrication. The sealant gives immediate aggressive adhesion to vinyl, wood, glass, aluminum, painted or treated wood, high performance paint and fiberglass. The clear formulation also improves the appearance of finished units.

Dow Corning works with industry-leading equipment suppliers to offer fabricators pre-engineered pump and X-Y glazing table combinations that deliver maximum benefits of Dow Corning InstantGlaze. Controlled by microprocessors, the equipment meters and dispenses a uniform sealant bead that maintains the specified gap between glass and frame with virtually no material waste.

Fabricators with tape glazing operations will realize the greatest gains in productivity and profitability, but even those already using automated technology appreciate the fast cure and reduced assembly time the sealant allows. Anthony Ferrera, director of manufacturing for Graham Architectural Products, says, It is clear we have reduced the post-glazing labor that used to be spent on clean-up and adjusting prior to shipping. The sealant also eliminates the 24-hour cure period. Since we have been testing this material, Ive embraced it. Its a wonderful product, not only in production but for its performance as well. We have three lines using it now and I am planning to convert the entire building by the end of the year."
