The Golden Gate Wind quintet is proud to announce its first Annual Wind Quintet Composition Competition. The GGWQ wants to encourage the creation of new music for the wind quintet. This is the perfect opportunity for composers who make the San Francisco Bay Area their home to practice their compositional and orchestration skills utilizing the 5 wind instruments of the wind quintet. Top prize is $100 cash and a performance of the winning composition in the GGWQs 2003-2004 concert season.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August, 2003 -- The Golden Gate Wind quintet is proud to announce its first Annual Wind Quintet Composition Competition.
We invite composers to submit new works, or works that may have been composed but havent yet been performed. Writing for the wind quintet is both challenging and rewarding because of its unique instrumentation that allows for endless palettes of colors, textures, and depth with its rich orchestration.
Selected submissions will be read and critiqued during a November master class.
Dr. Sy Brandon (http://www.cooppress.hostrack.net/sybrando.htm) will be our distinguished composer for the Master Class. The Golden Gate Woodwind Quintet will be performing a world premiere composition/commission by Dr. Brandon in a concert during the weekend-long festivities, which is a celebration of new music for the Wind Quintet.
