Belmont Instrument Delivers Life Saving Technology to U.S. Military

BILLERICA, MA (PRWEB) August 21, 2003 -- Belmont Instrument Corporation today announced that it completed shipment of 64 FMS 2000 rapid fluid infusion systems, life-saving devices for massive hemorrhage, to the U.S. Army and Air Force during the first half of the year. Shipment of this order brings to 136, the number of units placed with the U.S. military to date.

The FMS 2000 is used in combat situations by the Armys Forward Surgical Teams as well as in the Air Force Expeditionary Medical Support (EMEDS) and Small Portable Expeditionary Aeromedical Rapid Response (SPEARR) teams.

The FMS is a rugged, portable instrument used in high blood loss trauma situations where inadequate fluid replacement can render a survivable injury fatal. The military chose the FMS for its rugged design, and unique safety features.

Intravenous fluid bags contain large volumes of air, and in the past, personnel had to remember to remove the air before administering the solutions, or risk a catastrophic air embolism that could cause death or serious injury. The FMS automatically detects and removes air, a safety measure that is especially critical in a high stress trauma setting.

We designed a special military version of the FMS to ensure safe, rapid delivery of warmed IV fluid in field operations. It is extremely gratifying for all of us at Belmont Instrument to know that we play a critical role in caring for our injured troops” said George Herzlinger PhD (MIT, Physics) CEO of Belmont Instrument, and the father of a U.S. Army infantry officer.

In addition to the military installations, the FMS is also in use many of the leading trauma, transplant and cardiac centers in the U.S. and Europe. The companys website is www.belmontinstrument.com.

Based in Billerica, Massachusetts, Belmont Instrument Corporation is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of sophisticated devices for fluid infusion and cardiac assistance.
