128MegaByte miniSD Cards Available from PDC

Hsin Tien, Taiwan,(PRWEB) September 11, 2003 ¡V Following the mass production of the industry¡¦s first 128MegaByte Reduced Size MultiMediaCard (RSMMC) products in July, PDC (Power Digital Card) offers to the market the industry¡¦s first 128MegaByte mini Secure Digital Cards (miniSD) again. PDC¡¦s patented injection production process allows the company to advance in the industry with its high-density products ahead of market demands.

The miniSD Card has a form factor of (20mm x 21.5mm x 1.4mm; 11 contact pins), much smaller than the standard SD Card which has a form factor of (32mm x 24mm x 2.1mm; 9 contact pins). By use of an adapter, the miniSD can be backward compatible with standard SD devices. Because of its small size, the miniSD is suitable for compact handheld devices such as mobile handphones and provides SD users a different alternative type of memory card.

PDC¡¦s miniSD and standard SD Card products are loaded with the CPRM Key (Content Protection for Recordable Media), making the card suitable for music or content download via CPRM enabled devices. With the offering of the 128MegaByte miniSD Cards, PDC¡¦s miniSD products series is complete from 8MegaByte~128MegaByte, and standard SD Card product series complete from 8MegaByte~512MegaByte. By Q4 of 2003, PDC expects to release its 256MegaByte miniSD Cards and 1GigaByte conventional SD Cards on a mass production level.

A relatively new product on the market, most miniSD devices are still manufactured and sold in the Japan market. Some models of mobile handphones in Japan have already been designed to accept miniSD cards. The small size of the card makes it suitable for the consumers who strive for smaller and more compact products. But as miniSD Cards are currently limited in supply, PDC plans to join the market to help promote miniSD Cards, hoping to help expand market demands and increase new applications.

In line with its standard SD Cards, PDC¡¦s miniSD Cards are built with top quality and waterproof designs. But to meet increasing consumer demands, PDC plans to allocate more resources on technological advances and breakthroughs, hoping to offer better quality, higher performance, and more cost effective products to the consumer market.
