Lets Talk Peace: Talk-Radio Host Rabbi Tovia Singer Confronts Former PLO Terrorist Walid Shoebat at the University of Western Ontario

Walid Shoebat, former PLO terrorist and grandson of a Muslim Mukhtar (chieftain), makes his first Canadian speaking appearance before Jewish and Muslim students. He is joined by Israel National Radios controversial talk-radio host, Rabbi Tovia Singer.

TORONTO, CANADA (PRWEB) January 23, 2004 -- Walid Shoebat, who was born in Bethlehem and grandson of a Muslim Mukhtar (chieftain), makes his first Canadian speaking appearance before Jewish and Muslim students at the University of Western Ontario, specifically because of recent indications that Muslim students are being enflamed against Israel through campus organizations and conferences.

Campuses throughout North America are becoming hotbeds of controversy over the Arab-Israeli conflict. Recent examples include the protests at Concordia University when Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to speak, Daniel Pipes appearance at York University, the recent York University Student elections, and a controversial Muslim conference held recently at the University of Toronto.

Indoctrinated in the PLO as a child, Shoebat was involved in many anti-Israel riots, terror, and violence against Israel, and was imprisoned in Jerusalem's central prison. After a period of self-study and reflection, Shoebat rejected his previous life of terror and intimidation, concluded that hate and violence will not further the cause of Palestinians towards a stable future. He has dedicated himself to fighting hatred and achieving a just peace in the Middle East.

"The world does not see the truth about what's happening in the West Bank," Shoebat told a Toronto reporter. "My purpose is to tell the West that they aren't getting the real picture, that what they're seeing is propaganda. I know the truth because I was there, I was part of it. And the truth is, we wanted to kill Jews long before the occupation. I wanted to kill Jews."

In the US, Shoebat had worked as a counselor for the Arab Student Organization at Loop College and supported anti-Israel activities. Now he wants to help provide a greater understanding of what is really happening in the Middle East with realistic suggestions on how the situation can improve. As an unlikely ally, Shoebat chose New York-based Rabbi Tovia Singer to aid in his quest.

The host of Israel National Radios controversial Tovia Singer Show, Singer first brought Shoebat to the North American listening audience on toviasingershow.com and paltalkradio.com last year. He continues to speak out publically about Muslim hate and PLO violence, although he realizes his life is in danger daily. "Even my father has disowned me," says Shoebat, who adds "he tells me I should be killed."

The event is the first is a series of presentations by the Singer Media Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a fair and honest portrayal of Israel and the Jewish people in the media. Committed to fostering tolerance and understanding through community involvement, educational outreach and social action, the Foundation confronts important contemporary issues including racism, anti-Semitism, terrorism, and genocide as they are portrayed in the media.
