New African American Greeting Card Company, NZinga Afrocentric Greeting Cards, offers card designs for those tired of seeing us depicted as others THINK we are!
(PRWEB) January 13 2004--NZinga (pronounced In-Zinga) Afrocentric Greeting Cards, became a reality late this year for artist Devonah Blackwell. First of all--the name--why choose a name that's so dang hard to pronounce, you ask? lol. A lil background on the name: Ms. Blackwell chose it because of 16th century Queen NZingha of what is currently Angola, West Africa. While in college she came across the story of her heroic resistance against Portuguese attempts to enslave her people. She was a fierce warrior, politician and leader, who thwarted enslavement efforts for over 30 years. When the artist read her story, she felt Queen NZingha represented all that historically symbolizes the black woman--determination, strength, courage against seemingly insurmountable odds, and a fierce devotion and love for her people. And that's exactly what Blackwell wanted the name of her company to reflect. Because if nothing else, NZinga Greetings has been a long labor of love- 10 years in the making; from the first greeting card design Blackwell came up with at her mother's kitchen table in 1993, to being able to present all of the designs currently on display at her new website. But it ain't over. This is actually just the beginning, cuz she has plenty more designs in the works and will add them as they are ready. NZinga's founder wanted to create images that reflect the diversity and beauty of people of African descent, no matter where we live. If you are like her, and are tired of seeing us portrayed through the eyes of someone else's idea of what they THINK we are, then these are the greeting cards for you. With quality that's second to none and sentiments that reflect a true love and admiration for our community...we present NZinga Greetings!
