Reusable Plastic Rentacrates Complement Visteon Villages Green Design

Visteon Selects Rentacrates Environmentally-Friendly Moving System

Waltham, MA; Livonia, MI (PRWEB) October 4, 2004 -- Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) has selected Rentacrate Incorporated's environmentally-friendly moving system for its relocation of employees in 13 different buildings to four central locations including Visteon Village, its new corporate offices and innovation center in Van Buren Township, currently registered for LEED certification in 2005.

Preservation of the environment was a priority for Visteon when developing the new campus, and the company reused and recycled materials wherever possible—from the parking lot's concrete to the lakeshore's edge—right down to the packaging system selected for the relocation of its employees.

Amongst their many efficiencies, Rentacrates are an environmentally-friendly alternative to cardboard boxes and promote the principals of reduce-reuse-recycle. Once a Rentacrate is produced, its reuse capacity is virtually infinite: a Rentacrate has a 10+ year lifespan, and broken, damaged or retired crates are sent back to the factory and recycled for the production of new crates. Since most cardboard containers are used commercially only once, it's not surprising that corrugated material comprises nearly one-third of all landfill waste. Rentacrate's current inventory of crates will eliminate over 80 million boxes from landfill waste in their lifetime.

Traditionally, environmentally-friendly products have come with a cost disincentive. Rentacrates, however, are more cost effective than the alternative (cardboard), providing a cleaner, easier move that can reduce costs by 40% with fewer units, less labor and fewer truckloads.

"Given Visteon's overall goal of greater efficiency and environmentally-sound practices, reusable plastic crates are a solid choice for their relocation," said Michael Shanley, President & Founder of Rentacrate. "We are pleased to have been selected by Visteon for this project."

Visteon began the move process to consolidate 13 different sites to four main locations in early August. Rentacrate delivered the initial phase of plastic crates and dollies to employee at the start of the moves, and additional deliveries and pick ups (of empty crates) will continue throughout the end of the year in 19 scheduled phases. The entire project will utilize 46,800 crates; 2,600 computer crates; 18,900 dollies; and additional move accessories including flat screen, keyboard, and monitor bags.
