Elkhorn Wisconsin residents, Patrick & Aimee Conley, launched 80s Airwaves, an online radio station that plays a wide variety of music and soundbytes from the 1980's, from their garage on May 1. Broadcasting full time for the last five months, 80s Airwaves has climbed to the top 15% of over 7,400 other Shoutcast broadcasters.

Elkhorn, WI (PRWEB) October 12, 2004 -- Patrick and Aimee Conley began their online 80's music station, "Live from a Bonus Room Over the Garage" on Saturday, May 1 and five months later they are ranked in the top 15% of over 7,400 Shoutcast webcasters internationally. Mixing an ever expanding variety of music from the late 70's through the 1980's with soundbytes from 80's movies, TV shows and comedy bits, 80s Airwaves presents its listeners with a constantly changing listening experience 24 hours a day. The Conley's have amassed a collection of over 2,500 albums, 3,000 CDs, and hundreds of videotapes and DVDs which they began preparing for online broadcast a year prior to the launch. Currently, their on-air library boasts over 6,200 songs covering a wide range of musical styles, all of which are available for request by the listeners at 80sAirwaves.com.

Because webcasting is not sanctioned by the FCC, 80s Airwaves plays music and soundbytes in their original uncensored form.
"Traditional radio seems to be losing ground quickly because of increased commercials, decreased creativity and now the FCC has increased fines for questionable language and subject matter" stated 80s Airwaves owner Patrick Conley. "This also explains the increasing popularity of iPods, online radio stations, and satellite radio. These new stations are willing to take programming chances that traditional broadcast corporations are clearly avoiding." Conley expects that as wireless web connections become widespread, listeners will be able to tune in 80s Airwaves from cell phones, PDAs or even laptops. "Even though we've only been broadcasting for less than six months, we have already seen people tune in from Spain, Portugal, Poland, and even Dubai in the United Arab Emirates." The online guest book, found at www.80sAirwaves.com, has entries from Germany, Liverpool and Italy, as well as many neighbors within Wisconsin and Illinois.

With years of radio and club DJ experience, Patrick Conley expects 80s Airwaves to appeal to adults who were in high school and college during the 1980's. The wide-ranging variety of music, sound clips and other audio mixing techniques have most of their dedicated listeners tuning in from their office computers every day, usually for hours on end, to enjoy this new "mixed media" format. 80s Airwaves is also the only radio station with a daily news break at noon and midnight each weekday, featuring current news events surrounding popular 80s artists. Twelve times each day the station plays new releases from artists which came to prominence during the 80's. Artists currently in the new releases rotation include U2, R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Tears for Fears, The Finn Brothers, David Byrne and more.
