FilmStew.com Chairman John Culton announced today that FilmStew.com will be participating as the Presenter Sponsor for this years Screenwriter of the Year Award at the Hollywood Film Festival Gala October 18, 2004. This years recipient will be John Logan who penned The Last Samurai.

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2004 -- Following his WGA Award and nominations for an OscarŽ and an Emmy, screenwriter John Logans run continues with the Hollywood Film Festivals Screenwriter of the Year honors. FilmStew is particularly pleased to be
Sponsoring this years Screenwriter Award; it runs hand in hand with our business of helping writers and showcasing Hollywoods Master Storytellers." Culton said.

Much has been made about Logans latest script and the all-star cast of actors reprising Hollywood greats in Martin Scorseses upcoming Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, one that includes Cate Blanchett as Katherine Hepburn, Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner, Jude Law as Errol Flynn and Stanley DeSantis as Louis B. Mayer. The upcoming Christmas release is but the latest triumph for screenwriter John Logan, who received a Best Original Screenplay Academy AwardŽ nomination for his work on Gladiator. Logan will accept Hollywood Screenwriter of the Year honors at this falls 2004 Hollywood Film Festival. Last year the prize went to screenwriter Ron Bass (Rain Man / Entrapment). FilmStew.com is the presenter sponsor and Kate Beckinsale will present the Award.

The busy 39 year-old Illinois native, who was recently tapped with a little help from his friend Brent Spiner to pen Star Trek: Nemesis, has also been engaged to write the screenplay for the 2005 Sam Mendes musical Sweeney Todd and the 2006 Michael Mann/Tom Cruise war drama The Few. The latter represents a reunion of sorts with Cruise, for whom Logan wrote The Last Samurai.

Intriguingly, Logan garnered his Emmy nomination and WGA Award for a project not unlike The Aviator, the HBO TV movie RKO 281. It featured Liev Schreiber as Orson Welles, James Cromwell as William Randolph Hearst, Melanie Griffith as Marion Davies and Olivier Pierre as Sam Goldwyn.

Logan began his career with the 1996 TV Movie Tornado!, timed to coincide with the big budget theatrical release of Twister, and moved on to the 1999 Lou Diamond Phillips horror thriller Bats before landing the RKO 281 assignment. He has also contributed to Any Given Sunday, The Time Machine and last years Dreamworks animated picture Sinbad: The Legend of the Seven Seas.
