Announcement of combined music & art Halloween party organized by L.A. Rock Bands Woven, h is orange and Apex Theory on October 30, 2004 at Hangar 1018 in Downtown LA. Includes three live rock sets, underground DJs, art exhibits and more. Reduced admission for costumed guests.
(PRWEB) October 17, 2004 -- Fans of rock bands Apex Theory, Woven and
h is orange are already scouring vintage stores and the back of their closets for Halloween costume ideas, and for good reason. The three bands have combined efforts to producing what they are enthusiastically predicting to be "the world's greatest Halloween party ever." They may be right.
Set for Saturday, October 30th, the night will feature not only the three popular and established bands, but art exhibits from respected L.A. artists, DJs spinning between sets and other surprises and entertainment. The setting for this extravaganza will be the high-ceilinged, wide-open loft space that is Hangar 1018 in downtown Los Angeles. The crowd is sure to be festive as well... reduced admission is being charged to ghouls, demons, superheroes and, well, anyone in full costume. The bands are planning to disguise themselves as well, just for the rock-n-roll hell of it, and plans for outrageous group-themed costumes are underway.
The three bands share common influences and philosophy, overlapping along a spectrum of styles. The three-man Apex Theory has been described as "multi-textured music, which combines metal, prog-rock, Mediterranean music and even jazz." The five-man, two guitar-anchored h is orange is "somewhere between the post-hardcore sound of Helmet, drone string melody of U2 and sky-high vocals of Tool," while Woven, the five-man outfit featuring two drummers, is "unique with texture and ambience, combining rock with electronica a la Radiohead meets Massive Attack." The DJs will keep the party rocking between sets and will include some of the top LA underground DJs.
The unique format of the evening will include art exhibits as well, with local artists Nathan Cartwright and Travis Morley contributing work. Unlike most galleries, Hangar 1018 welcomes a wide range of art, from traditional photography, sculpture and painting to more avante-garde graffiti art and multimedia works. A recurring exhibit is the "Cannibal Flower" show, and the gallery is currently planning to add movie nights to its spectrum of entertainment.
The layout of Hangar 1018 allows for both an artist-friendly stage area and a generous dance floor. Hangar 1018 partner Lance Sanders noted, "the art exhibits combined with music shows that we do here always attract a really eclectic mix of people. We have capacity for more than 400, so it should be a huge, diverse party!"
The public can dress as their favorite rock and roll icon, ghost or sexy siren and join the festivities at Hangar 1018 at 1018 Santa Fe Ave. at Sacramento. Doors open at 8; admission is $12 at the door, reduced to $10 for those wearing full costume. DJs will be spinning from the onset, but the bands will be led off by h is orange at 10pm, followed by Apex Theory at 11pm and then Woven completing the magic at the stroke of midnight.
