Amikaeyla and Lea pay tribute to the world renowned a capella group, Sweet Honey In The Rock. These local urban contemporary vocalists capture the essence of Sweet Honey and interpret their messages into their own language. It's a must see!

Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 18, 2004 -- Strathmore and the Washington Area Music Association present the Washington Area Music Timeline Concert Series with the music of Sweet Honey In The Rock, as performed by Amikaeyla Gaston and Verlette Simon (Lea)on October 20, 2004. Enjoy a tribute by urban contemporary vocalists to the spiritual and political music of D.C. based Sweet Honey In The Rock. Their music crisscrosses the political, social and spiritual domain. Therefore it is quite appropriate that Ami and Lea have been selected to honor these trailblazers. The concert will be held at Strathmore, located at 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda MD 20852 and begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased on line at www.strathmore.org/calendar/upcoming_events.asp or by calling 301.581.5100.

Amikaeyla has been performing professionally since 1990. She mesmerizes audiences with her own soul-stirring rhythms, sultry ballads and a crystal clear sound. She has shared the stage with legendary vocalist Yasmeen, of Sweet Honey In The Rock; Mickey Hart, of the Grateful Dead; percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo and world renowned African drummer, Baba Olatunju. She recently returned from India, where she performed for the commemoration of the Golden Buddha, at the International Festival of Sacred Chanting and Singing, by invitation from the Dalai Lama.

Amikaeyla recently released her own CD, MOSAIC. Lisa Austin of MTV Online says "Amikaeyla's voice is like listening to velvet waterfalls..." The Washington Area Music Association has nominated her as Jazz Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year, World Music Female Vocalist of the Year and Urban Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year. Join Amikaeyla and Lea in this well deserved tribute to Washington DCs own Sweet Honey In The Rock on Wednesday, October 20th 7:30 p.m. at Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland.
