Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) November 15, 2004 -- Best Selling Author Kevin Powell will present a compelling discussion based on his most recent book, Whos Gonna Take the Weight? Manhood, Race, and Power in America on Monday, November 29, 2004 at Medgar Evers College in the Norman B. Johnson Lecture Hall located at 1650 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, New York from 12:00pm to 1:15pm.

In the wake of the re-election of Mr. Bush, this promises to be a thought provoking and not to be missed passionate discussion. Mr. Powell takes stock of harsh realities that lay ahead but at the same time, ever optimistic about our ability to empower ourselves, he takes stock of possibility, the promise of younger America. In his recent essay, Looking for America," Mr. Powell reflects on first time 18-21 year old voters, and believes that their vote was not in vain. He states, I feel we have awakened a sleeping giant, or, more importantly, the giants, the leaders, in any of us who care about real democracy, real freedom, real self-determination, real people power. The younger Americans who became passionate about politics, about life, about living, in 2004, give me hope."

About Kevin Powell. Along with being a nationally best selling author of six books, Kevin Powell is an essayist, poet, journalist, community activist and highly sought after public speaker.

This event is a collaborative effort of The Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College; The Male Development & Empowerment Center at Medgar Evers College, and The North Country Institute and Retreat for Writers of Color.
