New Book About Mass Transit Shows Cincinnati in Simpler, Slower Times

Arcadia Publishing has just released a new title on mass transit in historical Cincinnati Ohio. Cincinnati on the Go by Allen J. Singer shows the Queen City during a time when carriages shared the streets with streetcars. The book includes 200 vintage images of river traffic and streetcars and automobiles among other forms of mass transit.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) November 19, 2004 -- More than 155,000 vehicles on I-75 daily cross the Brent Spence Bridge across the Ohio River into Cincinnati. Bottlenecks and aggravatingly long lines of traffic are common occurrences every rush hour. The new book by Cincinnati Subway author Allen J. Singer invites readers to turn back the clock and witness the Queen City in an era when most folks did not own automobiles and rode the streetcars instead. This simpler time is seen in Cincinnati on the Go, History of Mass Transit (Arcadia, 2004, ISBN 0738533378, $19.99). The book was released in October, and is is already nearly sold out at the publisher.

This exciting sequel and companion to The Cincinnati Subway (Arcadia, 2003) shows how people commuted in Cincinnati over a century ago until 1950. This volume offers over 200 vintage photographs and illustrations, many never before seen or published. The reader will delight in viewing steamboats headed for Coney Island, horse-drawn vehicles, the earliest automobiles, steam railroad travel, Cincinnati and Covington streetcars, interurban trains, incline planes and vintage street scenes.

Cincinnati on the Go offers more than just a collection of static images of buildings and streets. It takes the reader into the eyes of the commuters of yesteryear. Emphasis is placed on the people, whose modes of transportation moved much more slowly than today, presenting a stark contrast to the fast-paced modern city.

Cincinnati on the Go is available at bookstores in Cincinnati and online. Mr. Singer has numerous autographings and appearances scheduled for November December.

Allen J. Singer is a freelance writer residing in Covington, Kentucky. His published works include The Cincinnati Subway and articles for radio trade magazines.
