A newly released book about church history and the Last Days has ignited tempers in the Christian community by claiming that many mainstream Christian practices and beliefs are merely part of an elaborate hoax. Citing historical facts and scripture, The Rational Christian alleges that millions have been intentionally deceived.
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) November 26, 2004 -- A newly released book about church history and the Last Days claims that the beliefs and practices followed by millions of Christians are merely part of an elaborate hoax. Citing detailed historical facts and biblical references, "The Rational Christian," written by Arnie Suntag and published by Christopher Creek Publishing, a small independent publishing house, asserts that churches are systematically misleading millions of sincere believers with false theologies introduced by a centuries-old conspiracy. The book is being boycotted by one church and has already been pulled from some bookstore shelves.
In "The Rational Christian," Suntag attempts to prove, through documented historical events, that various contrivances were used to dilute and eventually replace the real teachings of Jesus Christ and the Disciples. Offended by some of the books allegations, a local Assembly of God church allegedly asked its congregation to boycott the books sale to the public. A popular Christian bookstore was later purportedly pressured into removing the book from its shelves. Although still somewhat obscure and not heavily marketed to the mainstream, the books sales are nonetheless soaring, according to its distributor. People are buying "The Rational Christian" just to find out what all the controversy is about," says Ruby Doty, a board member of Rational Christian Ministries, the books distributor. We can only hope that those who read the book will discover the real biblical truth, rather than merely trying to satisfy their curiosity."
The books author, Arnie Suntag, claims that "The Rational Christian" is only controversial because people would rather believe in colorful age-old ceremonies and stories, than to accept the real facts about their roots. People never like to hear the truth," says Suntag, particularly when it contradicts beliefs they have followed all of their lives." He says that although many will buy the book because of its inherent shock value", some will also discover true faith.
