Filmmaker announces release of new documentary film about the massacre of children at Beslan School--the first in a new series of documentaries, and a new foundation for child victims of war and abuse
(PRWEB) November 26, 2004 -- Photojournalist and documentary filmmaker David A. Glen has announced the release of a documentary film about the Beslan School tragedy in which terrorists caused the deaths of hundreds of people, many of them children, in early September, 2004. The documentary—Tragedy in Beslan—examines in detail the horrific events at the little school, and the fallout from the ongoing Russian-Chechen war. It is the first in Glens new series of documentary films and companion printed reports entitled ON ASSIGNMENT".
The launch of the series of programs, available on DVD and each with a full, color printed companion version, coincides with David Glens founding of the CHILDREN UNDER FIRE FOUNDATION—a non-profit organization operated under the patronage of frontline photographers, documentary filmmakers, and foreign correspondents in the international media who are frequent witnesses to the plight of innocent and often orphaned child victims of war and abuse worldwide. The Foundation's goals are to raise awareness and funds to provide safety, medical care, legal aid, justice, education and in many cases homes for such unfortunate children.
We raise funds in a variety of ways," says Glen, from individual charitable donations, funding from other foundations and trusts, and from corporate sponsors who participate in our documentary film programs and full color printed reports in the ON ASSIGNMENT series.
Additionally, we hold regular events to screen documentaries and photo essays, many of which are hosted by some of today's most prominent and talented documentary filmmakers, war photographers, and foreign correspondents."
Speaking of the ON ASSIGNMENT series of programs, proceeds from which are dedicated to the CHILDREN UNDER FIRE FOUNDATION, Glen stated:
"ON ASSIGNMENT is an ongoing series of documentary reports both in video and in print produced by a group of professional frontline photographers, documentary filmmakers, and foreign correspondents whose dedicated purpose is the unadulterated pursuit of truth in reporting.
ON ASSIGNMENT represents a return to REAL investigative journalism, and is a paradigm of the documentary medium—thoughtful, rational and objective. Our documentary programs and printed reports offer poignant imagery and commentary on human conflict, natural disasters, politics, people and culture, science and technology, health and medicine, and geographical exploration from around the world.
It is our avowed mandate to pursue high standards of ethics in our reporting; to vigorously avoid the use of semantics or bias; and to never be encumbered or held hostage by social niceties nor political strategy."
