Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y., announced today that its Womens Health Center received a one hundred percent compliance with the Mammography Quality Standard Act (MQSA). The compliance is part of an annual MQSA inspection conducted by the Food & Drug Administration on hospitals mammography and stereotactic biopsy procedures.

(PRWEB) November 1, 2004 -- MQSA has helped establish federal safety and quality assurance standards for mammography facilities, personnel, equipment and operating procedures throughout the country.

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which reminds us of the need for making the most advanced screening tools and technologies as widely available as possible," said Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator of Good Samaritan Hospital. Early detection through quality mammography screening saves lives. I am proud that our Womens Health Center not only meets, but goes beyond regulatory compliance in serving this critical need for our community."

The Women's Health Center at Good Samaritan Hospital is a comprehensive diagnosis center offering a full range of screening and diagnostic tests, including self breast examination instruction, screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, fine needle aspiration, stereotactic breast biopsy, focal breast sonography, bone density testing and community education programs.

As part of its mammography procedures, the center recently began offering free of charge the MammoPad®, a foam cushion recently approved by the FDA that dramatically eases the discomfort many women feel when they get a mammogram. The MammoPad creates a softer, warmer mammogram, dramatically minimizing the pain and discomfort usually associated with mammography – a significant reason many women give for avoiding this vitally important screening tool.

Good Samaritan Hospital is part of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, which also includes St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, NY and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY, and is a member of the Bon Secours Health System in the United States, a Catholic health care ministry headquartered in Marriottsville, MD. Additionally, Bon Secours Charity Health System provides the services of a Certified Home Health Agency, two long-term care facilities, an assisted living and adult home facility and several other medical programs.
