(PRWEB) December 9, 2004 -- Can an American upstart kick out the British? Since 1994, English wine firms dominated the wine education and certification field in the United States. Now a dynamic firm in Philadelphia is offering an alternative that may soon be the national standard.

The maiden semester for The Advanced Wine Certificate Program© begins January 13th at The Wine School of Philadelphia. The AWCP is a three month program developed by a coterie of highly regarded academics and wine professionals, including Dr. Lynn Hoffman (Author of The New Short Course in Wine and founder of Drexel Universitys Culinary School)

The program insures a level of usable knowledge and employability in all graduates, far beyond what was previously available. Most importantly, the course goes far beyond the concepts of viticulture and terroir to address the mechanics and economics of the trade itself.

While the Wine School will implement the ACP, a newly formed nonprofit agency will administer all professional certification, along with accreditation of teachers and schools nationally.

We are honored to be the first school to run the Advanced Wine Certificate Program." states school President Keith Wallace. We expect this program, along with the Wine Basics Program, to be implemented nationally by 2006"

To enroll in the AWCP, students must pass the schools Wine Basics Exam or attend the two month Wine Basics Certification Program.
