Defect Tracker 5.10 Features Configurable Work Flow And Microsoft Visual Source Safe® Integration

Pragmatic Software Company announced new enhancements to Defect Tracker version 5.10 (http://www.DefectTracker.com), the latest version of a customizable web solution to track software defects and manage the software development life cycle. The latest version of Defect Tracker greatly improves workflow by allowing clients to define how statuses flow from one status to another and what items are displayed, hidden, required or non-required for each status.

(PRWEB) December 12, 2004 -- Pragmatic Software Company announced new enhancements to Defect Tracker version 5.10 (http://www.DefectTracker.com), the latest version of a customizable web solution to track software defects and manage the software development life cycle.

"For over 5 years, Defect Tracker has aided companies in managing their software quality assurance tasks, including requirements management, defect tracking, test case management, and file sharing", said Steve Miller, President of Pragmatic Software. "The new features of the software are fueled by client suggestions, as they enter these suggestions into our electronic Suggestion Box. A common suggestion was to provide customizable workflow, integration with Microsoft Visual Source Safe® and more robust reporting.", adds Miller.

Customizable Workflow
The latest version of Defect Tracker greatly improves workflow by allowing clients to define how statuses flow from one status to another and what items are displayed, hidden, required or non-required for each status. For example, when creating new defects, a client may want the defect to automatically be assigned to a status of "NEW" and may want certain items filled in for new defects (like the defect description, title, and steps to reproduce). However, once defects are assigned to team members, the client may only want the defect to flow to a status of "RESOLVED or ON HOLD", and may want to require that the resolution code and resolution description be entered upon saving the defect in RESOLVED status. The configurable workflow feature allows the client to set these rules, identifying what states a status can transition to and what fields of information are required, hidden, locked or non-required for a specific status.

Visual Source Safe Integration
The Enterprise edition of Defect Tracker now provides integration with Microsoft Visual Source Safe®. Defects can be associated with the source code that was fixed due to the defect. This allows teams to determine what source code models are affected by specific types of defects, making analysis of code impact easier to understand. Defect Tracker also integrates the standard source code management features like GET, CHECK IN, and CHECK OUT.

More Robust Reporting
Defect Tracker was enhanced with more robust reporting, including a myriad of new defect, test case, and functional specification reports. The newer reports allow trending of defects, test cases and functional specifications over time, allowing teams to spot trends and determine if the quality of their software is improving as the project progresses towards production. Ad-hoc reports can also be created by team members, where they can select the items they wish to appear on the report, the report layout, and the filter criteria. For Enterprise clients, Defect Tracker has full integration with Business Objects Crystal Reports®, allowing teams to create their own custom reports and post them into Defect Tracker for others to use. This integration empowers teams to post reports from other SQL based databases (like Oracle, SQL Server, etc), allowing Defect Tracker to double as a full reporting solution for all areas of their business.

Defect Tracker is offered as a monthly subscription starting at $ 60 per month (2 concurrent users), as well as a scalable enterprise solution that can handle thousands of simultaneous users and can be branded and tailored to exact client needs.
