Teach Your Child to Read Using an Interactive Phonics Based Reading Program

Phonics is a time tested, efficient method to teach children how to read. With this in mind, Usborne Books has created a new reading program called "Make Reading Fun" that promises to take away the boredom associated with learning how to read. Make Reading Fun is a new interactive phonics based reading program that utilizes colorful workbooks and c.d. roms to bring those workbooks to life using the power of animation.

(PRWEB) December 27, 2004 -- To date, over 180 research studies have confirmed that phonics is the best way to teach children how to read. Unfortunately, 80% of our nations schools do not use an intensified phonics approach for reading instruction.

They use the whole word approach (see and say) or a combination of phonics and whole word.

While children can learn using the whole word method, it is not the best or most efficient way to learn how to read. The whole word method teaches reading through memorization and guessing.

Unlike the Japanese and Chinese languages which are picture based, the English language is phonetic. There are only 44 sounds while there are about 1 million words in English.

These facts readily explain why having to memorize 44 sounds as opposed to memorizing hundreds of thousands of words is the most efficient way to learn to read.

Reading and writing is simply talking on paper. When children learn to talk, they do so by imitating sounds. They then combine the sounds to form words.

The brain is programmed to learn language in this fashion. Therefore, the most efficient way to learn to read is through phonics because it teaches children to read the same way they learned to talk.

Usborne Books has developed a new phonics based reading program called "Make Reading Fun" that is designed to make learning to read an enjoyable experience for children and is easily more affordable than the other commercial reading programs available.

"Make Reading Fun" is a new interactive reading program utilizing phonics with video and companion books that will make learning to read fun for children and is designed to begin with teaching 2-3 year olds sounds and develop an ear for putting sounds in sequence.

After that the system progresses to first Words where they will begin to see that objects have a written symbol to go with them and they will learn strong contextual connections with familiar objects. They will end the program a few years down the road with all the phonics basics such as sight words and they will learn about prefixes, suffixes, conjunctions and more.

The program is delivered via multimedia and is created to remove the analog approach to teaching reading and let the child follow a path that fits their learning styles.

The Make Reading Fun Reading Program:
- Interactive C.D. and books - Each module comes with an interactive c.d. and 3 companion books. The c.d. contains storybooks that match perfectly with the 3 companion books. Just a click of the button and the storybook is read to you, with each word being highlighted as your child follows along with the actual book.

- Each interactive c.d. includes video aids, interactive story books and various learning activities. - The learning activities that come with each module consists of various phonics activities. Your child will learn some skills such as vowel sounds, word endings, sequencing, puzzles, blends, letter sounds, word recognition, and vocabulary building.

- Printable activities to help drill difficult concepts to your child. - You can help reinforce what your child learned in the games and books through the printable activities that are included in each c.d.
