Denver Fencing Center Announces 2005 Fitness Challenge: "Physical Chess" is a Unique Alternative to the Gym

The Denver Fencing Center is offering special Fitness Challenge Classes in 2005 for adults, teens, and kids. Fencing is the perfect sport for people who are easily bored by typical exercise programs, since no two bouts are ever the same. Those who take up fencing, regardless of their age, often stick with it because its challenges are both mental and physical.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 27, 2004 -- The Denver Fencing Center (http://www.denverfencingcenter.com) challenges Coloradoans to attack, lunge and parry to get fit in 2005. After a successful transition to its new location at 1938 S. Navajo St., the DFC continues to add students aged 8 to 75 engaged in the exciting sport of fencing. The DFC leadership attributes this success to the lure of a sport that works the mind as well as the body, a combination that helps people stick with their training regimen. To that end, the DFC is offering special Fitness Challenge classes in 2005.

According the Denver Fencing Center head coach Nathan Anderson, Fencing is the perfect sport for people who are easily bored by typical exercise programs, since no two bouts are ever the same. I find that those who take up fencing, regardless of their age, tend to stick with it because its challenges are both mental and physical. A Fencer gets so focused on outwitting his/her opponent; they forget that theyre exercising vigorously and burning 400 calories per hour. Thats what makes it so enjoyable."

Fitness challenge beginner classes are available at the adult, youth, and teen level that will focus on the fundamentals of fencing foil (fencings primary training weapon) with basic attacks and parries. A new round of intermediate and advanced courses will also begin, with an emphasis on competitive strategy and bout techniques for foil, epee (fencings dueling weapon), and saber (fencings cavalry weapon). As always, sessions of open fencing are available each evening for fencers to duel one another.

Spots are still available in many of the DFC winter classes that begin the week of January 3rd, with another session beginning February 15th. The Denver Fencing Center is open Monday-Thursday from 4pm to 9:30pm, Fridays from 4pm to 7pm, 9am to 12:30 on Saturdays, and by appointment for private lessons. 2005 Summer Camp registration is also now available.
