(PRWEB) December 29, 2004 -- San Francisco-based personal trainer Patty Jones and life coach Howard Miller have combined forces for a first-of-its-kind approach to ensuring long-term commitment and success with a health and fitness program: the Circle of Support Fitness Program.
By adopting the approach used by the nations top athletes - the combination of a coach, who guides, incents and focuses people on their personal goals, and a trainer, who concentrates on physical development - the Circle of Support program is a sure-fire way for people to successfully meet their fitness commitments in 2005.
According to a Kaiser Permanente survey, nearly six in 10 Americans resolve each New Year to lose weight and exercise more or make some other health related change in their lives. However, only ten percent of Americans strictly stick to their New Year's health resolutions, while another 24 percent do so occasionally. The result is that, without a stronger commitment, almost two-thirds of people who resolve to be more fit fail their own objectives.
Patty and Howard realized, through personal experience (see case study below), that to be physically fit means to be mentally and spiritually fit as well. This idea formed the nucleus of the Circle of Support program.
How Circle of Support Program Works
"I am primarily focused on the physical fitness aspect of their behavior and related challenges. However, if they have fears or barriers in their lives, I see it reflected in lagging motivation, missed appointments, counter-productive behavior and eventually they may even drop their training sessions," says Patty.
"Howard works with each individual to help them realize their fears and move beyond them to get what they want. He takes the same techniques he has used with business entrepreneurs to help them achieve balance in their life and maintain a workout schedule that successfully occurs on a regular basis."
Case Study
In 2004, Patty and Howard had a common client who inspired the idea for this new service. Deborah, a successful San Francisco real estate agent, had trouble committing to working out. She would come up with excuses for being late to a workout or miss altogether, going through the motions but not really putting any energy into the workout commitment.
After meeting with Howard for a few months, Deborah's workouts with Patty became more regular and more dedicated. The success with Deborah compelled Howard and Patty to combine forces and offer combined personal training and personal coaching services to individuals who want and see the value of working out in their everyday lives, but have had trouble maintaining that commitment.
According to Deborah: "Working with Patty and Howard simultaneously was exactly what I needed. With each of them focusing on their respective specialties while at the same time communicating with each other about how I was doing and how they could help me with my specific challenges, I felt like there was this complete circle of support and that I could not fail. I am a regular exerciser today, feel much better about myself and have more energy for my highly demanding career. I could not have gotten here without Patty and Howard's joint approach."
