(PRWEB) December 31, 2004 -- Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown's newest musical, The Last Five Years makes its South Bay premiere at Musical Stage LA playing in the Haag Recital Hall February 19, 26, and 27, 2005. This modern falling-in-and-out-of-love musical is full of lush melodies and emotionally resonant lyrics.
The composer told the New York Post that the show tackles many of the questions facing young married couples as traditional roles and expectations have disintegrated. Now it's a question of how do you have a successful marriage and still grow as an individual? Where does a couple find true fulfillment, in each other or in other goals and ambitions?"
The Last Five Years, which has been called the musical for a new generation," features two actors. 22 year-old Nathaniel Cowden, a Culver City native and graduate of UCSC, plays Jamie, an aspiring Jewish writer, and 24 year-old Manhattan Beach resident and USC grad Marcy Brooks plays Cathy, the Irish-Catholic struggling actress.
The show is directed by Wes Burrell. Design by Vandy Scoates. Musicians are pianist Rin-rin Yu and South Bay Youth Orchestra cellist Michael Carey.
