Children's Books Are Hot, and They Just Got Hotter!!

The American Book Cooperative, a Houston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy, launches a competition for children's books. The grand prize, totaling over $25,000, will be publishing, editing, illustrating, marketing, and promoting of the book - along with 3000 ready for sale copies.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) February 6, 2004-—Only three out of 15,000 children's picture books submitted to mainstream publishers are actually printed each year. If you are one of the 14,997 left holding a rejection slip, your odds of getting published have just improved tremendously. And it's as easy as A-B-C.

Monday, February 2, the American Book Cooperative's (ABC) is launching its Children's Picture Book Competition. All you have to do to enter is send in your manuscript. The winner will walk away with a prize package valued at more than $30,000, and 3,000 ready-for-sale books.
"Unless we receive over 5,000 entries, an author has a better chance of getting published by competing for our award than by shipping manuscripts all over the country─and for a lot less money," confides Rita Mills, Executive Director of ABC, If you've had a children's book in mind but never got around to putting it on paper, here's a golden opportunity to get it published."

The ABC competition is open to any published or unpublished author over the age of 21 who is a US citizen. The manuscript must not exceed 1,200 (twelve hundred) words, must contain the illustrative qualities that set a picture book apart from other genres, and must target children between the ages of two and seven. There is a small processing/handling fee of $55 (fifty-five dollars) for each entry. Five entries per person are allowed. The award-winning author will retain all sub rights to their book.

The deadline for entry is midnight, April 12, 2004. The American Book Cooperative will notify the top 10 finalists on or before May 20, 2004. ABC will announce the finalists to the general media on June 3, 2004 at the kick-off ceremonies for the Houston Festival of Books ─ scheduled for May of 2005.

ABC will post the top ten finalists on the web during the summer of 2004 for click-through voting to pick the Grand Prize Winner. "We want the winner to be selected by the people who will actually read the books not some editor sitting behind a desk," added Ms. Mills.
For further details on the competition visit the ABC website at www.AmericanBookCooperative.org.

The American Book Cooperative is a non-profit assembly of authors, publishers, and publishing artisans devoted to the publishing and marketing of books. Designed as an organization that offers an alternative to traditional publishing, ABC makes it feasible for the voice of the independent author to be heard as the world moves into the 21st century. Founded in Houston, Texas in 2003, it is the first agency cooperative in the publishing industry.
