Kagan Study Tackles Cable's Nagging Disconnects

Cable TV subscribers cancel service at a rate of 2.6% per month, or 31% on an annualized basis, yielding 20.4 mil. disconnects in 2003, according to Kagan World Media's new economic study of subscriber churn. Released today, the exclusive report, entitled "Trends in Subscriber Churn: An Economic Analysis," observes that more than half the disconnects occur as a result of changing residences and attributes the remaining nine mil. subscriber opt-outs to dissatisfaction, inability to pay and service adoption issues.

(PRWEB) February 9, 2004 -- Cable TV subscribers cancel service at a rate of 2.6% per month, or 31% on an annualized basis, yielding 20.4 mil. disconnects in 2003, according to Kagan World Media's new economic study of subscriber churn.

"Trends in Subscriber Churn: An Economic Analysis" offers projections of future trends in churn for video, voice and data offerings, gauges the cost of subscriber loss and makes comparisons with satellite services. The report analyzes what MSOs are doing to combat the problem -- such as targeting a nagging 60% digital churn rate for reduction via customer care improvements and the bundling of "stickier" digital tier products like VOD and DVRs.

The report examines: Components Of Video Churn, Digital Churn, Analog Churn, Annual Move Rates, Data Churn, Phone Churn, DBS Churn, The Economic Impact Of Churn, The Cost Of Video Churn, The Cost Of Replacing A Subscriber, Lower Churn Leads To Higher IRRs, Combating Subscriber Churn, Advanced Digital Services And Churn, Operators Battle Churn With The Bundle, The Impact Of Sell-In And Retail Sales, Customer-Retention Initiatives, Going All-Digital," Selected MSO Churn Stats, and more.

This 35-page report, including 23 tables and charts, is available via the Web from kagan.com or by calling: 1-800-307-2529. Electronic Edition: $395 ; Print Edition: $450 ; Both Editions: $595
