NASA Takes-Off with eLearning

NASA just launched a first, a custom eLearning program from its Ames Research Center (ARC). Design, developed, and hosted by PulseLearning Ltd, the program is a context oriented and role-based application simulation for the mandated travel management, which proved to be an expedient and cost effective way to create an online learning solution.

(PRWEB) March 2, 2004, New York -- NASA, the National Aerospace Administration of the United States, just launched a first. This time the payload for the space agency is custom eLearning for the Ames Research Center (ARC). Design, developed, and hosted through Irish-based eLearning company, PulseLearning Ltd, the program is a context oriented and role-based application simulation for the mandated travel management system.

NASA ARC selected PulseLearning for its PulseAssess product, an expedient and cost effective way to create an online learning solution. The Centers need was for a job-aide to support the 1,700 plus employees using the commercial travel management application. The learning solution provides users with a workflow process and procedures model for requesting, approving, and reporting travel.

Having conducted classroom instruction several times since the initial go-live in May of 2003, Gail James, the Training Officer at ARC, began considering other approaches. We faced a number of challenges introducing this agency-wide Internet application," she said. Employees have different roles when using the Travel Manager software and each role has its own particular processes and procedures. Theres no ‘one-training-session-fits-all answer. Besides, at NASA its difficult getting folks into a classroom. Everyone is always struggling to balance work schedules against demands for training. Whats worse, were dispersed geographically."

PulseLearning afforded a complete suite of services from Instructional Design through QA wrapped into its learning solution toolbox, PulseAssess. The product provided a template structure for stand-alone Internet browser deployment in the absence of a learning management structure. Incorporated in the toolbox are the course guide, lessons, assessments, feedback survey, FAQs, and reporting. PulseLearnings expertise and understanding of courseware development, along with quality project management from both organizations, lead to completion of the eLearning solution in nine weeks time.

It is a prime example of quality team work between our client and us, coupled with a good technology solution," said Rick Wilson, VP of PulseLearning Ltd in North America. Aside from a developer onsite to create the workflow simulations at ARC in northern California, we did the work entirely from our Development Center in Ireland. Its a hallmark of our competency to work virtually and deliver quality, value, and performance quickly."

James said, They showed up just at the right time with the right product and services. With desktop and laptop computing universally available and NASA pushing eLearning we just needed somebody who could create a program that works today and then fits into our long-term plans for eLearning later, and these folks [PulseLearning] had just the way to do it."
