DIVERSITY RECRUITMENT TREND IN CORPORATE HIRING
ATLANTA (March 15, 2004)— Lucas Group, one of the nations largest executive search firms, has seen a dramatic increase in diversity recruitment among executives and senior-level positions throughout Corporate America.
Employment of minorities who are manager level and higher has also risen considerably. According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEO) women and African-Americans employed as officials and managers" has risen nearly 33 percent in the last decade. For Hispanics and Asian minorities the numbers have grown even more with their representation increasing by more than 50 percent over the past ten years.
Making an organizations infrastructure more diverse has been shown to improve corporate culture, company image, and relationships with clients. According to the Diversity Best Practices report, produced by the Business Womens Network, many candidates will not consider a company for potential employment if he/she learns that the company lacks a commitment to diversity.
Recruiting a diverse workforce has become an essential component of building a successful organization," says Alex Baxter, a managing partner at Lucas Group. National studies show that over the next ten years more than half of those entering the workforce will have a minority background. Industries that are leaders in diversity recruitment include healthcare, engineering, hospitality, transportation, and technology."
The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Labor report that by the year 2012 civilians with a minority background will see the greatest percent change in employment, specifically with the greatest increase among Hispanics (33 percent) and Asians (51 percent). Lucas Group has responded to this demand with Executive Diversity Career Fairs, and the next event takes place in Atlanta, GA on Thursday, May 13. Co-hosted with The Wall Street Journal and CareerJournal.com, Lucas Group has seen employer attendance numbers increase dramatically over past diversity career fair events. Companies that have participated in previous Executive Diversity Career Fairs include: General Electric, Bear Stearns & Company, DaimlerChrysler, Pepsi Bottling Group, EMC, AstraZeneca, Frito-Lay, KaiserPermanente, Stryker Corporation, Eli Lilly, Federal Express, Deloitte & Touche, Merrill Lynch, and more.
