Charles Jay - activist, editor/publisher of TotalAction.com, president of Total Action Inc., and one of the world's most respected boxing writers, has signed on as worldwide spokesman for the International Brotherhood of Prizefighters.

Elkhart, IN (PRWEB) March 18, 2004 -- Charles Jay, activist, editor/publisher of TotalAction.com (http://www.totalaction.com), president of Total Action Inc., and one of the world's most respected boxing writers, has signed on as worldwide spokesman for the International Brotherhood of Prizefighters (IBOP).

Aside from representing the organization around the world, Jay will be involved with all aspects of the IBOP operation, including the development of special projects promoting and utilizing the IBOP brand, and will provide exclusive content and other services to the IBOP website (http://www.ibopboxing.com). He will also transfer much of the content from the Fight Page section of TotalAction.com to IBOP's web presence.

Operation Cleanup: A Blueprint for Boxing Reform
IBOP maintains the world's largest boxing database, containing the most detailed boxing records and results. Its initial record book, published in 1997, is generally considered to be the most comprehensive of all-time. The organization will be expanding into a number of different activities related to improving boxing - including, but not limited to: the creation of marketing and merchandising opportunities for the sport, advancements in health and safety issues, and of course, making things better for fighters, both while they are active and after they are retired.

All of this was a strong motivation for IBOP in approaching Jay to be involved. According to Dino daVinci, founder of the organization, "At this critical stage, boxing needs leadership. IBOP is dedicated to bringing about a new paradigm by which this industry will be structured. And Charles Jay is the ideal person to help us get to where we want to go. He's articulate, well-spoken, and forward-thinking. He's also the most dynamic voice for boxing reform this sport has ever seen."

"These guys (IBOP) are absolutely for real. I wouldn't get involved with them if they weren't. In fact, I think you'll see a common thread with all the boxing organizations I get involved with," says Jay. "They're in business, to be sure, but they also have a tremendous concern for the general welfare of boxing. To me, that's a winning combination."

Jay is known the world over by boxing insiders and fans for his landmark exploratory series on boxing, "Operation Cleanup", which forced the industry to look at boxing reform in a whole new way. As part of the arrangement with IBOP, the two books that have resulted from the series - "Operation Cleanup: A Blueprint for Boxing Reform" and "Operation Cleanup 2: Unfinished Business" will be re-posted, in their entirety, at IBOP's site.

After the publication of the first two "Operation Cleanup" books, Jay received the prestigious "Dignity Award" from the Retired Boxers Foundation as "Best Sports Writer".

"Charles' work is so special, so brilliant, that we think everyone needs to read it," said daVinci, "and I wanted to do what I could to make that happen. I can honestly say Charles Jay is the finest boxing scribe I've read. Ever. He's the Sugar Ray Robinson of boxing writers."

The great news for boxing fans is that the deal will also allow Jay to embark on a third "insider" book on boxing, which will be offered exclusively to readers at IBOPboxing.com. "I figured I was eventually going to write a third book, but it was difficult to determine when that was going to be, while at the same time running my company, and being active in politics (Jay announced for the Libertarian Party's Vice-Presidential nomination in January)," he said. "However, we've worked things out to where the third book will be coming.

"It's not going to be 'Operation Cleanup 3', but it's going to be hard-hitting, and at the same time amusing and entertaining as well. There will be investigative pieces in it, and also a lot of anecdotal stuff that doesn't necessarily fit into a book that is just about reform. It will be my best book yet, and will appeal to the widest audience."

Upon its ultimate conclusion, the as-yet-unnamed book will be available for purchase in hard copy through print-on-demand.

"This is incredibly exciting, all the way around," says Jay. "Together with IBOP, I think we can really turn things around in this sport, and we can do it the right way, without the foolishness of a national commission or a boxing czar."
