The IMPACT Group Selected to Provide Job-Seeking Help for Military Spouses

First-of-its kind program a joint effort with the Department of Defense; will initially aid 1,600 military spouses

St. Louis, MO – March 29, 2004 – The IMPACT Group has been named by the U.S. Department of Defense to begin a one-year pilot program that assists employment- seeking military spouses, announced Laura Herring, President, CEO, and founder of The IMPACT Group. The program, called IMPACT JEMS (Jobs/Employment for Military Spouses), will initially focus on aiding 1,600 military spouses who are relocating to Scott Air Force Base in OFallon, IL this year.

Due to the frequent relocation of military families, the Department of Defense has identified the need to support military spouses seeking employment during their transition. By making use of The IMPACT Groups expertise, the Department of Defense hopes to improve retention of qualified military staff. Through the IMPACT JEMS program, The IMPACT Group – a St. Louis-based global employment and career management firm – will establish a network of local, regional, and national corporations willing to employ spouses of military staff. Additionally, IMPACT JEMS will also be available to spouses already residing at the base.

We are very excited about The IMPACT Group, in partnership with our Family Support Center, helping our military spouses find employment in our local community," said Colonel Barbara Faulkenberry, 375th Airlift Wing Commander and the Installation Commander at Scott Air Force Base. The IMPACT Group will work with local employers who will commit to identifying employment opportunities for relocating spouses. Improving how we assist our spouses attain employment translates into higher retention of our military members."

IMPACT JEMS may be expanded to include other military installations in the future if the pilot program can substantially assist military spouses in their job search process.
