Intended as a gift guideline to consumers, retailers, and manufacturers, Birthscent designates a particular scent to each month, much like the concept of birthstones. The Birthscent list was derived by collecting historical information on each month, and by analyzing the dates of various worldwide events. Scents were then assigned to each month.

According to Angela Graves, owner of Christiano Design, It was quite a challenge to analyze information and find scents that seemed to represent each month. Our goal was to choose appropriate scents that were familiar to nearly everyone worldwide. Our research and final decisions took more than a year. We are also pleased to coin the term, 'Birthscent' which is under trademark."
Christiano Design is a Delaware-based product design company specializing in scented items for the home. While the company will be launching its own products based on Birthscent, Christiano Design is encouraging other businesses in the fragrance and gift industries to adopt the list. We hope that everyone from perfumers to home fragrance manufacturers will use the Birthscent list. Wed also like to see Birthscent used by calendar publishers.
