IEEE Chooses CanIt-PRO to Help Protect Staff and Members from E-Mail Spam

World's leading technical-professional organization deploys CanIt-PRO to protect 130,000 staff and member e-mailboxes.

(PRWEB) April 5, 2004--The IEEE has selected and deployed CanIt-PRO to help alleviate the problem of spam e-mail among its staff and membership. CanIt, an industry-leading anti-spam solution from Roaring Penguin Software, Inc., is now available to help relieve the IEEE's 130,000 e-mail users of lost productivity due to spam.

Mathew Persons, a senior systems administrator at the IEEE, said, We considered all the options that were available to us, including anti-spam services, appliances and other software solutions. We were the happiest with the way CanIt-PRO worked. It gave us the per-user flexibility, which is crucial to a membership organization like the IEEE."

Robert Jones, the IEEE's senior director of electronic communications, added, We run a very large e-mail alias service for our members, who represent a diverse set of users. CanIt-PRO enables us to offer them the features, performance and value of spam and virus filtering while giving them ultimate control over their own Spam Traps and filters. We've already heard from some members who say the service is saving them considerable time."

The IEEE has deployed CanIt-PRO on two Sun Fire V880 servers running Solaris 8 and Sendmail. CanIt-PRO was deployed in an opt-in state and advertised to the organization's users.

Based on the acclaimed MIMEDefang e-mail inspection and manipulation software, also developed and maintained by Roaring Penguin, CanIt offers the industry's most complete and flexible anti-spam and anti-virus solution. It can be deployed in any enterprise e-mail environment, including on all Linux and UNIX servers. As a stand-alone gateway appliance, it can protect e-mail environments running non-UNIX servers, such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and Novell Groupwise.

CanIt is available in standard and professional versions as either a software download or on a plug-and-play appliance. CanIt-PRO is ideal for large membership organizations, enterprises, ISPs, web hosts and campus environments, where control and management of the system needs to be distributed to individual departments or users. A trial version of CanIt can be obtained at www.canit.ca/evaluation.php.
