ChildLocate and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity Launch Text and Track – Children Safety Campaign

(PRWEB) April 12, 2004 -- ChildLocate, the leading mobile location provider in the UK, has joined forces with Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens Charity to launch Text & Track – a new campaign aimed at promoting child safety.

Parents anxious to know the whereabouts of their children can now try the innovative ChildLocate service FREE for 30 Days. Thereafter, ChildLocates new low cost tariff offers parents the opportunity to locate their children for a monthly fee of just 5.99.

Parents can register up to five mobile phones on ChildLocates new low cost tariff. The monthly cost includes 10 location requests and 10 text messages per subscription, with additional location requests at 20p and further texts at only 5p. Moreover, for every monthly tracking service subscription entered into, ChildLocate has pledged to donate 20 pence for the benefit of the Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens Charity.

With over 30,000 ChildLocate customers already, the system offers a discreet and secure way of locating children, so that they do not feel pestered by repeated phone calls to find out where they are. ChildLocate can also assist in the quest to reduce the numbers of children playing truant from school.

The ChildLocate service uses the latest mobile phone technology to enable parents to locate their children's whereabouts in an instant. Parents can either access a webpage, which then shows the child's location on a map, or use a mobile phone, which indicates the area by text. The service can be used for mobile phones using the Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and O2 networks.

‘Parents today are working increasingly long hours, while children have become more independent than ever before. ChildLocate is a foolproof way of checking up on your childs whereabouts without running the risk of being intrusive. Because the service can provide immediate feedback on a childs location, it offers instant reassurance for all parents, says ChildLocate Director Jon Magnusson.

‘The recent launch of ChildLocate and other similar mobile tracking services has sparked a lively debate about the ethical justification behind the viability of such services. The truth is that, as well as being invaluable for parents wanting to ensure their childrens safety, they have additional uses, such as locating relatives suffering from Alzheimers disease. With approximately 750,000 Alzheimer patients in the UK, and over 7 million inhabitants over the age of 70, ChildLocate is ideal for tracking both children and the elderly, adds Magnusson.

Editors Notes:

Statistics from the Governments Social Exclusion Unit show that, by the age of sixteen, one in nine children run away from home for at least one night. This translates to 129,000 runaway incidents, involving 77,000 young people under 16 running away during the course of a year. In 1997 there were over 21,000 runaway incidents in London and over 10,000 in Manchester.

According to Home Office statistics contained in ‘The Police response to missing persons, Police Research Series Paper 114 from 1999, each missing person consumes an average of five hours of police time, with the principal focus of police resources aimed at those whose lives may be in danger.
