Software and Digital Oblique Imagery To Increase Operational Efficiencies
ROCHESTER, NY (PRWEB) April 13, 2004 -– Pictometry International Corp., provider of a patented information system that captures digital aerial oblique and orthogonal images, as well as related software, announced today that it has secured a licensing agreement for county-wide imagery and software with the Los Angeles County agencies. With an area larger than some states, LA County is also the most populated county in the nation. Oblique imagery for the county was delivered in late 2003, encompassing some 1.3 terabytes of information that cover the countys dramatic topography that scales from below sea level in Wilmington, to over 10,000 feet at the top of Mt. San Antonio. The county is also home to 15 airports, including Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Pictometrys industry leading software enables users to quickly and easily access up to 12 different high-resolution views of any property, building, highway, landmark, or other feature in a county. The software also enables end users to obtain measurements directly from the georeferenced imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data. The company has a growing customer list approaching 100 counties, the State of Massachusetts, and numerous metropolitan centers that include Atlanta, Boston, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
Through the efforts of LA Countys Department of Regional Planning, the Pictometry system will be integrated with ArcSDE® and ArcIMS® software from ESRI®, and with Intermaps digital elevation modeling technology. Pictometry is an authorized Developer Business Partner with ESRI, and has a partnership with Intermap. We are very impressed with the quality of the images," said Milan Svitek, GIS manager for the Department of Regional Planning, LA County. Pictometry opens up a new territory for us in having a leading edge technology that will provide vital information across multiple agencies, planning projects, GIS efforts, and eventually, for public safety. It is clearly our visual imaging system of the future with the potential to have thousands of users county-wide."
Svitek says that the nature and limitations of this type of digital imagery prevents viewing of up-close, personal details. While Pictometry images offer a high level of clarity, enough to recognize the type or style of a vehicle, they are far from providing enough clarity to read a license plate," said Svitek.
For the Public Works Department, Pictometry images will enable users to expedite certain job functions, resulting in a more timely response to requests from the public. Having the ability to view any location from multiple vantage points from an individual's workstation will help reduce the number of site visits and allow the department to provide high quality services at a lower cost," said Greg Kelley, division head for mapping and property management of LA County Department of Public Works.
Los Angeles County represents a significant milestone for our growing company," said Richard Kaplan, CEO of Pictometry. We are pleased to be working with these agencies of the county that provide vital services to the public."
