New Web site helps Kerry supporters nationwide raise money for the Kerry campaign, allowing them to join a Kerry 100 Club or start one of their own.
Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) April 30, 2004 -- The first beta users have given their thumbs-up, so today the Kerry 100 Club (www.kerry100club.com) officially launched its fundraising concept into cyberspace. That concept—one hundred people donating $100 or more each and then challenging others to do the same—is one that has netted the Kerry campaign over $28,000 dollars to date, courtesy of the Santa Cruz 4 Kerry 100 Club. Now the club has gone national, helping others across the country start their own Kerry 100 Clubs. Clubs involved in the beta testing have defined themselves by geography (Contra Costa County Kerry 100 Club, Minnesotans Go-4 Kerry), by interest (Citizen Journalists, Golfers K100 Club), and by a combination of the two (California Environmentalists Kerry 100 Club, California Artists Kerry 100 Club). Expected shortly is the Republicans for Kerry 100 Club, expanding the definitions to include political affiliations.
The new Web site allows potential donors to select a club through which to donate to the Kerry campaign. All donations, regardless of club affiliation, go directly to John Kerry for President, Inc., the national Kerry campaign headquarters. The site also allows those interested in starting their own Kerry 100 clubs to set up a Web presence, collect donations online while keeping a running total of those donations, and use tools such as flyers and calling cards to solicit additional donations.
We think its important to show people that the donations do add up, and that every little bit really does count," says Tom Kroeger, co-founder of the Kerry 100 Club. Thats why we keep the running totals on the Web. People feel much more involved when they see the impact that their group can have, and then they tend to go out and get even more involved. We really are ‘Real People Funding Real Change."
Not only are the club members a diverse crowd, but the people involved in getting the Web site up and running are a hodge-podge, politically and geographically. Kroeger himself is a Republican, and two of the programmers are former Dean supporters. And speaking of programmers, they are a team of three, led by Ron Shannon (a Kerry supporter from the start, founder of Santa Cruz 4 Kerry, and co-founder of the Kerry 100 Club), in California. Chris Robinson in Seattle, Washington and Aldon Hynes in Connecticut round out the group.
Although the geographies and interests of all those involved in the Kerry 100 Club effort may differ, these people are united in one common purpose: to raise money for the Kerry campaign, ultimately working to put Senator Kerry in the White House.
