(PRWEB) May 1, 2004--The 2004 International Juried Online Symbolist Art Show, 'The Artist As Shaman', unveils three winners sharing cash prizes totalling $2,000 (Canadian). The exhibition includes 38 juried finalists, and opens May 1, 2004, at: http://www.dracoblu.com/symbolistshow.html

Curated by Susanne Iles and Patrick Byrne, the distinguished jury for the 2004 exhibition included: Teri Degler, an award-winning writer from Toronto, Canada, Mark Wagner, an accomplished digital and traditional American artist, and Wedlidi Speck, a First Nations storyteller, artist and addictions counsellor from Canada. Steve Danzig, an Australian digital artist, was the final member of the jury. He comments, Since 9/11 we have been living with extreme uncertainty. I believe the art presented in this years show makes a profound statement about human nature and how through art we can connect to a much deeper journey and sense of self."

According to the Oxford Dictionary, symbolist art seeks special symbols to express the essence of things by suggestion. It engages the viewer by appealing to the heart, personality and unconscious mind, as well as the intellect. The purpose of this annual one-of-a-kind event is threefold:

- To promote symbolist art and its importance of leading the viewers imagination into the unseen world of thoughts, hopes, and fears. Symbols in art are a catalyst to personal revelation.

- To provide artists from all backgrounds an affordable, convenient, and global venue to exhibit their work. Finalists and winners will be showcased through to May 1, 2005, the date of the next show.

- To help art students gain exposure and bring together a diverse array of inspirational perspectives from around the world.

The International Juried Online Symbolist Art Show is an annual competition and show of symbolist art including fantastic, visionary and surreal genres. Complete details are available at: http://www.dracoblu.com/symbolistshow.html
