Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) May 2, 2004--HealthPro Consulting, Inc., and Vice President Maria K. Todd, MHA, PHD have scheduled Dr. Todds popular one-day, hands-on workshop in 17 cities from September through December 2004. The workshop entitled Analyzing and Negotiation Better Managed Care Contracts was presented in more than 200 markets and was attended by more than 50,000 participants during the mid to late 1990s by the McGraw Hill Healthcare Education Group, when capitation was a popular method of physician reimbursement. Many issues in contracting have changed and the seminar is being brought back by popular demand but will include several current and future trend areas of focus and practicable solutions.
This follows the April 14 announcement that HealthPro had contracted with more than 60 corporate training centers across the nation. The rollout of these local centers is in response to more than 60,000 past seminar participants exit comments from 1993-2003 regarding the need for high-quality, affordable, local seminars on healthcare business management, managed care and HIPAA compliance and reimbursement topics. Past attendees have sent hundreds of emails over the last year encouraging Todd to bring the program back independently, if not through another corporate sponsor. After several months of research and investigation, she decided to do it on her own. In the past few years, after McGraw Hill Healthcare Education Group left the seminar business, Todd continued to present programs on a regularly scheduled basis through the Healthcare Financial Management Association, (HFMA) and other state and national professional associations like the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). This new one-day seminar model moves the workshops out of hotels and into private corporate training centers enabled with T-1 Internet connections and PolyCom videoconferencing capabilities at each location. Corporate hotels are located within walking distance at most centers.
No newcomer to the one-day seminar model, Maria K Todd, MHA, PhD, lectures frequently for various state and national trade associations, universities, physician training, residency and fellowship programs and the US Military. She has presented more than 2000 educational programs and lectures since 1991 throughout the US and abroad. She spent an average of 270 days each year presenting seminars in over 200 major and secondary markets between 1993 and 1999. Her experience as a nationally recognized speaker, author of several books and consultant on managed care and related topics provided the insight for HealthPros business model. Todd is the author of The Managed Care Contracting Handbook, (1996, McGraw Hill and the HFMA, Chicago) IPA, PHO, MSO Development Strategies, (1997, McGraw Hill and the HFMA, Chicago) and the Physician Employment Contracting Handbook (1999, McGraw Hill and the MGMA, Chicago) and contributes articles to various professional journals and special publications of the American Osteopathic Association. She also serves as an editorial resource to the Managed Care Contracting and Reimbursement Advisor (Brownstone), as well as local, regional, and national media. Todd regularly presents seminars and workshops through national associations including the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) on managed care contract analysis and negotiation and is listed in several professional yearbooks, including Whos Who in American Women, Whos Who in Medicine and Health, and Whos Who in the World and is a recipient of the HFMA 1999 Follmer Bronze Award.
While the techniques taught in previous programs continue to work, those charged with the responsibility to evaluate and negotiate managed care contracts for physicians, dentists and hospitals find that they need to continually refine their skills and develop tactics and strategies for the upcoming changes in the marketplace. Lately, providers are noticing a return to capitation in a few of the Midwestern markets, while others are seeing signs of the new trend in reimbursement Pay-for-Performance" (P4P)" says Todd. Still others are contracting as part of Centers of Excellence and contracting with the self-funded ERISA employer markets on a direct basis without the middleman HMO or PPO. These contracts include Disease Management Programs that require some creative contracting and sophisticated management and data capture. Todds programs are the only ones known throughout the country for including detailed operational analysis of a managed care contract, and incorporating the use of participants laptop computers in the class so that participants can bring home live, working tools and applications included in the price of the class, already programmed and ready to go on their own computers. Since there is no academy" of managed care contracting in the country, medical, dental and other providers have to seek out programs and workshops that teach practicable skills and techniques in order to hone their skills, or learn the business if they are transitioning from another industry.
Currently, the program has been scheduled for Portland, Seattle, San Diego, San Jose, Sacramento, Atlanta, Birmingham, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Tampa, Orlando, Boston, Chicago, Ieslin, Princeton, Schaumburg, and Milwaukee. Additional cities will be added for Winter 2005. Those interested in attending the program can find additional information at: http://www.healthproconsulting.net/seminars.htm
Other seminar titles will become available soon. Already slated for fall 2003 in addition to the Managed Care Contracting and Negotiating program, Todd will present a second program in many of the same cities on consecutive dates on the topic of Denials Management: How To Improve Reimbursement and Reduce Write-Offs. The combination of the two programs addresses many of the core issues associated with provider dissatisfaction with Managed Care business as a whole. Each program will deliver tried and true solutions that can be easily implemented by any healthcare provider.
Physicians, dentists and other healthcare providers will begin to receive seminar and workshop catalogs and brochures this summer and programs will begin in September 2004. The entire program catalog and tour schedule is available on HealthPros website at www.healthproconsulting.net
