Writers can get feedback on their work from Dr. Robert Fulton Jr., one of the nation's highly sought after freelance editors. Fulton will be manning the Editor's Table, a new addition to the 2004 Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings "Writing the Region" writers conference in Gainesville, FL.
GAINESVILLE, FL (PRWEB) May 8, 2004--A writer's relationship with an editor usually goes something like this -- write an article or book, send it in and get a form-letter rejection without much explanation as to what was wrong with the writing.
But at the 2004 Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings "Writing the Region" workshop any writer can turn the tables on this usual relationship.
Dr. Robert Fulton Jr., one of the nation's highly sought after freelance editors, will be manning the Editor's Table, a new addition to this year's conference. For a reasonable $15 fee, workshop participants will be able to sit down to talk about their work and ideas; or have Fulton give a query letter or up to three pages of manuscript a review.
"The level of comments I will be able to give clearly depends on what I am reviewing," said Fulton, who is a member of the faculty for the Writing the Region workshop. "If someone hands me a query letter, I can be quite specific very quickly.
"If someone wishes to discuss his writing, I can, but probably in general terms," he said.
Fulton suggests that to make the most of the time, writers planning to sit down at the Editor's Table send their material in advance.
"If I'm sent a one-page query letter or a three-page writing sample I'll be glad to preview it," Fulton said. "That will give us 15 full minutes to discuss the writing and for me to offer suggestions."
Sending material in advance is not required, Fulton said, but he cautioned that reading time would be included in the 15 minute Editor's Table session time.
Named for the well-known author of "The Yearling," the nationally recognized Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings "Writing the Region" workshop is scheduled for July 21-25, 2004 in Gainesville, Florida, a short drive from Rawling's home in Cross Creek.
