A Web Marketing Today survey of small- to medium-sized business owners and marketers asked what e-mail marketing program they used to send e-mail newsletters or promotions to customers. The results showed no single dominant vendor.

Rocklin, California (PRWEB) May 20, 2004 -- A Web Marketing Today survey of small- to medium-sized business owners and marketers asked what e-mail marketing program they used to send e-mail newsletters or promotions to customers. The results showed no single dominant vendor. Roving Software's Constant Contact was most popular, used by about 10% respondents (which includes both paid and free users). Other popular programs included Group Mail (7%), Lyris (4%), Gammadyne Mailer (3%), AWeber (3%), VerticalResponse iBuilder (3%), GotMarketing Campaigner (3%), and Yahoo! Groups (3%, free). Others in the top 22 programs included 1ShoppingCart, Topica, Dada Mail, Exact Target, GoldMine, AutoResponse Plus, Mailloop, ProAutoResponder, Site Build It!, Subscribe Me, WorldCast, G-Lock EasyMail, bCentral List Builder, and MailerMailer.

One surprising result of the survey is that no single vendor dominates this field. In this informal survey, 409 respondents listed 151 different bulk e-mail vendors. 42% of respondents indicated that they used other e-mailers than the most popular 22 in the survey.

In order to limit respondents to users of bulk e-mail software only, survey responses of "none," "not applicable," "custom programmed software," "Outlook (Microsoft Office)," "Outlook Express," and "Eudora" were not included in the final count, though e-mail client programs were used by 12.5% of respondents. Subscribers to Web Marketing Today (Free Edition) (www.wilsonweb.com/wmt/) were asked to complete the brief survey on May 5, 2004; after two days, the survey was closed. Subscribers tend to be owners of small Internet businesses as well as marketing staff at companies of various sizes.

Full results have also been published in a 148-page PDF format as The E-Mail Marketing Software Survey 2004: User Ratings and Comments (www.wilsonweb.com/ebooks/email-survey.htm).
