ISA Releases Information About New Automation Certification Program
ISA - The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society has launched the web page for its new Certified Automation Professional (CAP) program.
The web page, available at ISAs website by visiting http://www.isa.org/cap, contains up-to-date information about CAP, such as eligibility requirements, exam dates, key knowledge and skills and a detailed program handbook. The web page also has the CAP study guide for sale. The first CAP exam is scheduled for October 7th in Houston at the ISA EXPO event.
The CAP web page, which went live Wednesday May 19th, represents the first publicly available information about the new certification program.
Over 70% of Initial Candidates Want the Industrial Automation Certification
ISA Developed the CAP program to address a need in the automation industry. "ISA looked at a certification in automation because of the key role automation plays in industry today," says Vernon Trevathan, Chair of the CAP Steering Team. Trevathan states that automation, unlike other job tasks essential to the manufacturing industry, is currently not regulated through any certification program at all.
An ISA study shows that interest in the CAP program is high. 72% of the responding candidates expressed a desire to obtain the new certification. Similarly, 80% of candidate respondents and 78% of employer respondents believed that ISA was the appropriate organization to administer the CAP program, underscoring the Society's role in the automation field.

ISA, working with experts in the field, has defined the body of knowledge that automation professionals should know and now provides the professional identity and recognition for these professionals through the CAP program. If you are an automation professional you should be a member of ISA, and you should be participating in ISA networking and educational activities."
