Hazard Alert Radios Provide Important Early Warning During Storm Season

Hazard Alert radios are being recommended and relyed on more and more and an important tool for homeowners in protecting themselves from storms, tornados and other hazardous events. With National Safety Month upcoming in June, now is a great time for homeowers to outfit their homes.

(PRWEB) HUDSON, OHIO, May 25, 2004 -- With spring storms occurring in force, now is a good time to remember that receiving and heeding early hazard advice is key. Increasingly, many communities are now recommending that their residents include hazard alert radios among their home safety devices for just this very thing.

Hazard Alert radios monitor warnings issued by the National Weather Service and can alert homeowners better then any other device on impending hazards," said Gary Maher, president of Safety Think, a leader provider of safety products and advice. The new generation is programmable so that you can monitor just your county or surrounding counties if you preferred. When an alert is issued and alarm tone will sound and the alert will be played. Some of the more deluxe models also allow you to pick and choose what type of alerts youd like to monitor. This is much more proactive then the television or radio, when you have to be awake and watching to hear of impending hazards."

In many hazard situations, timing is key. Being aware of an impending tornado or severe storm can provide homeowners with valuable time to seek appropriate shelter for their family. This early warning ability has also caused their use to be expanded to AMBER missing-children alerts and homeland security warnings. In fact, the radios can have such a significant impact, they have even been noticed by congress.

My congressional district is in the middle of ‘Tornado Alley," so Ive seen firsthand the injuries and loss of life that can occur when residents arent aware that a storm is coming," said Representative Frank Lucas (R-OK) in a House Committee on Science release discussing hazard alert radios. …Id like to see these radios become as prevalent in Oklahoma as smoke detectors. When severe storms hit our state, they could be the difference between life and death."

In fact, in an incident in Marquette Michigan, the radios were essential to a mandatory evacuation of the town due to a severe flood. The evacuation happened at 6 a.m. when many people were still asleep and only learned of the flood through the weather radio.

The radios really can be a life saver and will be used more and more for proactive communications within each community," said Maher. Since June is National Safety Month, its a great time for each family to add one to their home.

The hazard alert radios range in price from $39.95 on up. To learn more about them or to purchase a weather radio call Safety Think at 1-866-SAFETY4 (866-723-3894) or visit their website at www.safetythink.com.
