Hove, East Sussex, England (PRWEB) May 25, 2004--New band "Bedsit Bomber" today launched an online CD store (http://www.bedsitbomber.com/albums), where it will offer its own albums for sale worldwide. The store offers exciting, new music that cannot be obtained elsewhere, with a variety of formats and personalisation options, and with CDs priced under 2.00. According to Andrew Regan, the force behind Bedsit Bomber, this approach provides the best of all worlds: it puts the artist in control of their work, it gives buyers a physical product rather than a downloaded file, and at a price that cannot be matched.
Encouraged by the high prices of music CDs on the High Street, music piracy on the web and file sharing networks has flourished at the expense of the artist, whose copyright has been stolen, and whose revenues have been denied. With the threat of legal action and the appearance of high-quality legitimate stores, such as the iTunes Music Store, and, most recently, the re-launched Napster, legitimate music stores have now started to enjoy spectacular growth, attracting those users who want a high-quality, legal, music service at a low price.
However, it is by no means easy for unsigned bands, or bands outside the United States, to take advantage of this new way of bringing their music to the public. Clearly there is a tremendous opportunity for artists to take control of the distribution of their own work, ‘cut out the middleman, and sell legitimate, copyrighted, music CDs direct to consumers without the marketing and production overheads of the established stores.
The Bedsit Bomber store will be in the vanguard of this movement. As both a musician and a software/web developer, Andrew Regan was in the perfect position to identify and take advantage of this opportunity. "I am convinced that if other bands have access to the same technical and marketing know-how, they can sell their music in the same way and reach a wider audience than ever before, safe in the knowledge that their copyrighted work is not being distributed illegally." It also allows a 'personal touch' that cannot be matched by other stores or by file networks. For instance, we currently offer individually signed CDs for sale.
We hope shortly to launch an Affiliate program, which will allow partner web sites to generously share our revenues in return for, initially, driving traffic to our own store, and eventually to the CD stores of other up-and-coming artists.
