Miller Lite® and Local Businesses Step Up to Support APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade National SeriesPowerboat Race in Port Huron, Michigan
Rossville, GA (PRWEB) May 28, 2004 -- The City of Port Huron, Michigan is powering up for the arrival of the APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade Series Teams the first week of June, with plenty of fun and action in store for not just the teams, but the fans as well.
Gerrys Distributing has taken the lead by garnishing the spotlight for its Miller Lite® Brand of Products, the Official Beer of the newly named Miller Lite – Port Huron Offshore Gran Prix.
The City of Port Huron, McMorran Place, the Blue Water Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Mainstreet Port Huron host the event. They are joined by the Comfort Inn of Port Huron; recently named the Official Host Hotel for the event. The Comfort Inn offers special weekend room rates for teams and fans heading to the Blue Water Area for the weekend festivities.
A number of other local businesses have joined in support of this years racing competition, bringing professional offshore race teams from across the Nation to the City of Port Huron to compete in the second leg of the APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade Series over the weekend of June 10th – 14th, 2004.
The Miller Lite® - Port Huron Offshore Gran Prix will also be the first stop of the newly ordained Tri- State Cup. For competitors who wish to compete in the Northern United States, that means an additionally attractive APBA Offshore Central Division Championship Title.
Teams in pursuit of the Tri-State Cup will take the points earned from the Miller Lite® - Port Huron Offshore Gran Prix, and add them to the upcoming Cincinnati (Ohio) Offshore Gran Prix, June 18th, the Milwaukee (Wisconsin) Offshore Gran Prix, July 30th, and the Richmond (Ohio) Offshore Gran Prix, August 6th. The highest overall points-earners in each class will be awarded a $30,000 prize purse and special trophy, added to the $25,000 purse being awarded in Port Huron and additional prize monies at each of the other events.
Fogcutter Restaurant will be the host of the Thursday Night Racer – Volunteer Party, a treat for those local residents who lend a hand in assisting the event, whether it be by land, working with the staff in the McMorran Place Race Village, or by lake, joining to assist with their own boats as part of the patrol fleet.
A Volunteers Meeting will be at held on 6:00 P.M. on Thursday of Race Week at the Bridge Harbor Marina, followed by the Thank You Party at the Fogcutter where a complimentary appetizer buffet and cash bar will be provided.
We are very excited about giving our volunteers a thank you party in advance for the help they will give, and its a great way for everyone involved to get to know each other and meet our National Staff and Teams. Many will end up friends for life," said Michelle May – Schmidt, Director of Communications for the APBA Offshore Racing Association.
Friday night, after a long day of testing off Lake Huron with plenty of viewing of the million-dollar equipment in the McMorran Place Race Village downtown, competitors and fans alike are invited to join the Rock The Racers Party hosted by Legendz in the Colonial Shopping Center.
The Rock The Racers Party will feature live entertainment by the popular local band, The Hit Men and the Party starts at 8:30 P.M. Everyone is invited to attend, meet the teams, and enjoy the fun that surrounds an APBA Offshore GMC Pro Grade Racing Weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, racing action hits the Lake, so fans need only pull up a stretch of sand to watch because the viewing is free. A copy of the actual racecourse will be available online at www.apbaoffshoreracing.com website after Tuesday, June 1, 2004.
All weekend long, racers and their families, as well as the National Media will be stopping into another Official Race Event Sponsor location, the Back Door Internet Café, one of the newest hot spots in the city. Located conveniently next to the McMorran Place Race Village, the restaurant offers fast access to the Internet and a terrific menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
While in Race Village, fans may want to check the ample supply of race team souvenirs, or stop for a Free Spinal Analysis at the Deanda Chiropractic Clinic Booth in the Pit area. The experienced team from Deanda will also have Massages available on sight, for a great way to wind up an action packed day.
Concessions in Race Village will be available through McMorran Place; however, vendor booths are now being accepted for those businesses and crafters who want to take advantage of the fan base that is attracted to the area to see these high tech teams and their professional equipment preparations.
The great thing about our teams is that they are always willing to give an autograph, and answer any questions that someone has on boating, safety features, their equipment or how to get the most out our your personal watercraft. A camera is always handy because the teams love to take pictures with their fans," added Schmidt.
