North America's First Anti-Spam on Campus" Program Marks a Year of Success

Roaring Penguin's Education Program continues to provide college, university and K-12 institutions with the most flexible and effective anti-spam/anti-virus solution with per-user controls.

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (PRWEB) June 2, 2004 -– Campuses and educational organizations across North America are saving time, money and administrative hassle thanks to Roaring Penguin Software's Education Program. Since April of 2003, CanIt-PRO has provided campuses with the most flexible method of protecting campus mail servers and clients from spam and virus attacks, while enabling individual end-user control over mail filtering.

Eric Lorenz, Associate Director of Advanced Technologies at Central Michigan University, said, "Spam is an area of concern within our department and the university. CanIt-PRO offers an effective method for filtering both incoming and outgoing e-mail, while still providing flexible, easy-to-use controls for our students, faculty and staff. CanIt-PRO strikes a balance between the need to protect our infrastructure with the need to maintain individual preferences and privacy."

Over the past year, Roaring Penguin's Education Program has helped educational institutions throughout North America to minimize the burden of spam, as well as securing critical systems against virus attacks. Among the many post-secondary campuses and K-12 districts that have chosen CanIt-PRO are Ohio State University (site license), University of North Carolina (50,000 users), University of Delaware (37,000 users), University of Kansas (35,000 users), Algonquin College (35,000 users), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (10,000 users), Ithaca College (7,000 users), Grande Prairie Regional College, Erie 1 BOCES/WNYRIC, and others.

Bill White, Roaring Penguin's VP of Marketing and Sales, said, CanIt-PRO was designed to eliminate spam at the server while giving end-users the control they need over how their e-mail is filtered. Through our Education Program, we are able to solve a major problem that the academic community has, and do it in a way that fits their particular needs and budgets."

Donald Watkins, Technology Coordinator at Franklinville Central School District in Franklinville, New York, said, "We have tried other mail scanning software, and to put it simply, CanIt is the best solution we have found. The web-based interface makes it easy to configure the system and to create global rule sets. CanIt has also allowed us the flexibility to slowly ratchet down our spam thresholds to find the ideal settings for our district's needs. CanIt is extremely effective and easy to use, and the support has been exceptional."

Roaring Penguin's Education Program highlights include:
·Discounts and flexible pricing plans for educational institutions
·Key product features designed in collaboration with campus IT administrators, including:

Per-user filtering preferences and controls: administrators configure the server-based solution and delegate filtering control to individual departments and users

Zero-client web interface: allows CanIt to work even with web mail and supports all users, no matter what mail client they use

Easy integration with existing user authentication engines: users maintain one username/password for all mail services

Theme-able web interface: brandable to match a campus' own web site

Outbound mail filtering option: protects campuses from the repercussions of on-campus computers sending out spam

Source code provided: for the ultimate in customization and integration with existing systems

CanIt solutions offer the industry's most complete and flexible anti-spam and anti-virus protection. They can be deployed in any enterprise e-mail environment, including on all Linux and UNIX servers. As a stand-alone gateway appliance, CanIt can protect e-mail environments running non-UNIX servers, such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and Novell Groupwise.

CanIt is available in standard and professional versions as either a software download or on a plug-and-play appliance. CanIt-PRO is ideal for campuses, ISPs, web hosts and very large enterprises, where control and management of the system needs to be distributed to individual departments or users.
