Lok Technology Releases v.2 of the AIRlok Network Infrastructure Appliance

Expanding upon its capabilities of delivering a truly integrated network infrastructure appliance, Lok Technology, Inc. released v.2 of its AIRlok network Infrastructure Appliance upgrading all existing installations to v.2 and Open BSD 3.5. Miami, FL (PRWEB) June 4, 2004 -— Expanding upon its capabilities of delivering a truly integrated network infrastructure appliance, Lok Technology, Inc. released v.2 of its AIRlok network Infrastructure Appliance upgrading all existing installations to v.2 and Open BSD 3.5. These enhancements increase processing speeds, administrative capabilities and allow the AIRlok to seamlessly integrate with any existing authentication or database system, thus, reducing the cost and time for deployment of wireless networks for service providers and enterprises.

In addition to its existing 12 dynamic functions including intrusion protection, stateful firewall, bandwidth management, and a walled garden, AIRlok v.2 noticeably improves backend performance by a factor of three. Other significant improvements allow the AIRlok to now be seamlessly integrated into any network that is already operating on RADIUS servers and Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Active Director domain controller. In AIRlok v.2, an administrator can use directory services to centrally store authentication credentials. RADIUS (RFC 2138) is supported for integration with existing dialup infrastructures. RADIUS accounting (RFC 2139) session lengths are also supported. LDAP (RFC 2251) is supported for integration with UNIX systems such as iPlanet and Netscape directory servers. Microsoft Active Directory is also supported for integration with Windows 2000 and 2003 domains.

Network managers using the AIRlok to secure and manage their wireless and wired networks can now assign multiple administrators each of which can be limited to only being able to modify specific subsets of the management interface. This is important for network managers who need to operate larger, multi-point networks from a centralized interface. Overall, the completely new user interface in AIRlok v.2 is significantly superior to its predecessor improving efficiency and reducing training time.

Among the security enhancements in AIRlok v.2 users can now specify lists of IP addresses for use in firewall rules using a special hash-table system that is capable of extraordinary fast lookup. Filtering a table of 100,000 entries is only marginally slower than filtering 1,000 entries. This feature can also be used to filter banned content. The AIRlok can also be used as an IPsec VPN endpoint. This allows end-users to protect packets between themselves and the AIRlok. This can be used to defend against airborne attacks over a wireless LAN as well as protect packets coming in over a WAN using public lines. Unroutable networks behind and AIRlok can be accessed over the WAN using this feature.

As a completely integrated appliance for managing all backend functions of a wireless network, the AIRlok offers a truly plug-and-play scalable solution for wireless and wireline providers concerned about provisioning, managing and securing a network.
